Bows & Shells Bath Set



Work up a pretty bath set using a fun stitch.  Continue with an edging worked with "shell baskets" another fun stitch!  You'll enjoy the set for many years to come!

2 skeins ea Peaches & Crème ™ 4-ply WW cotton yarn (56.7 g / 2.0 oz) (main color - MC & contrasting color - CC)
Aluminum hook size I/9 (5.50 mm)

Gauge: 3 sc rows = 1”

Tissue Cover: (Using CC)
Finished size: fits a standard tissue roll

Rnd 1) Starting at top: ch 4; (15 dc) in 4th ch from hook (first 3 chs skipped count as first dc); join with a sl st to first dc (4th ch of beg ch 4): 16 dc.

Rnd 2) Ch 3, dc in joining; * (2 dc) in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 32 dc.

Rnd 3) (Working in back lps this rnd only); ch 3, (2 dc) in next dc; * dc in next dc, (2 dc) in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 48 dc.

Rnd 4) (Working in back lps this rnd only); ch 1, sc in joining; sc in next 2 dc, ch 8, sk next 5 dc; * sc in next 3 dc, ch 8, sk next 5 dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 18 sc/6 ch 8-sps.

Rnds 5-6) Ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next 2 sc, ch 8; * sc in next 3 sc, ch 8; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 18 sc/6 ch 8-sps.

Rnd 7) Ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next 2 sc, ch 3, sl st around last 3 ch 8-sps, ch 3 (bow tie st made); * sc in next 3 sc, ch 3, sl st around last 3 ch 8-sps, ch 3; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 18 sc/6 sl sts/12 ch 3-sps. 

Rnd 8) Ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next 2 sc, ch 8; * sc in next 3 sc, ch 8; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 18 sc/6 ch 8-sps.

Rnds 9-15) Rep rnds 5-8 ending with rnd 7

Rnd 16) Ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next 2 sc, ch 5; * sc in next 3 sc, ch 5; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 18 sc/6 ch 5-sps.

Rnd 17) Ch 3 (counts as first dc); dc in next 2 sc, (5 dc) in next ch 5 sp; * dc in next 3 sc, (5 dc) in next ch 5 sp; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 48 dc.  Fasten off; secure ends.

Bottom Edging: (Using MC)

Rnd 1) Join yarn to any dc post on last rnd of cover with a sl st; ch 1, (working over the dc post) (sc, hdc, 2 dc) (shell basket st made); * sk next dc, (working over the post of the next dc), (sc, hdc, 2 dc); rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 24 shell baskets.  Fasten off; secure ends.

Top Edging: (Using MC)

Rnd 1) Join yarn to any unworked front lp on rnd 2 with a sl st; ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in joining, sk next dc; * (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, sk next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 16 ch 3-sps/32 sc.  Fasten off; secure ends.

Finishing:

Slip the cover over tissue roll.

Tank Coverlet: (Using MC)
Finished size: Fits a standard tank

Row 1) Ch 20, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch; (ch 6, sk next 5 ch, sc in next 3 ch) twice: 2 ch 6-sps/9 sc. 

Rows 2-3) Ch 1, turn work; sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc, (ch 6, sc in next 3 sc) twice: 2 ch 6-sps/9 sc.

Row 4) Ch 1, turn work; sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc, [ch 2, sl st around last 3 ch-6 sps, ch 2 (bow tie st made), sc in next 3 sc] twice: 4 ch 2-sps/9 sc.

Row 5) Ch 1, turn work; sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc, (ch 6, sc in next 3 sc) twice: 2 ch 6-sps/9 sc.

Rows 6-53) Rep rows 2-5 respectively.

Row 54) Ch 1, turn work; sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc, (ch 5, sc in next 3 sc) twice: 2 ch 5-sps/9 sc.

Rnd 55) (Working in rnd to form edging); ch 1, sc over ea sc row to next corner, (working over bottom or foundation ch opposite row 1), sc in next 3 sc, [(5 sc) over next ch 5 sp, sc in next 3 sts] twice, (working up opposite side edge), sc over ea sc row to next corner, (working across the top), sc in next 3 sc, [(5 sc) over next ch 5 sp, sc in next 3 sts] twice;  join with a sl st in first sc: 148 sc.  Fasten off; secure ends.

Scalloped Edging: (Using CC)

Rnd 1) Working across short end of coverlet, join yarn to first sc at either short end of coverlet with a sl st; ch  1,  (sc, hdc, 2 dc) in joining (faux shell basket st made); * sk next 2 sts, (sc, hdc, 2 dc) in next st; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 50 scallops or faux shell baskets.  Fasten off; secure ends. 

Finishing:

Spray coverlet with water or spray starch, if desired and shape on a terry towel to dry.

Soap Holder (Using CC)
Finished size: 6" L x 3" W

Rnd 1) Ch 23; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch, ch 6, sk next 5 ch, sc in next 6 ch, ch 6, sk next 5 ch, sc in last 3 ch; join with a sl st in first sc: 2 ch 6-sps/12 sc.

Rnds 2-3) Ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next 2 sc, ch 6, sc in next 6 sc, ch 6, sc in last 3 sc; join with a sl st in first sc: 2 ch 6-sps/12 sc.

Rnd  4) Ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next 2 sc, ch 2, sl st around last 3 ch-6 sps, ch 2 (bow tie st made), sc in next 6 sc, ch 2, sl st around last 3 ch 6-sps, ch 2 (bow tie st made), sc in last 3 sc; join with a sl st in first sc: 4 ch 2-sps/12 sc.

Row 5) Ch 1, turn work; sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc, ch 6, sc in next 6 sc, ch 6, sc in last sc; join with a s sl st in first sc: 2 ch 6-sps/12 sc.

Rnds  6-12) Rep rnds 2-5 ending with rnd 4

Rnd 13) Ch 1; sc in joining, sc in next 2 sc, ch 5, sc in next 6 sc, ch 5, sc in last 3 sc; join with a sl st in first sc: 2 ch 5-sps/12 sc.

Row 14) Flatten soap holder so that 3 sc are to each side of the bow tie st on the front and back; ch 3, (dc in next sc and through corresponding sc on back of holder) twice, (5 dc) over next sp through front and back of holder, (dc in next sc and through corresponding sc on back of holder) 3 times: 11 dc.  Fasten off; secure ends.

Top of Holder: (Using CC)

Rnd 1) Join thread to either ch 5 sp on rnd 1 of holder with a sl st; ch 3, (4 dc) in same sp, dc in next 6 sc, (5 dc) in next sp, dc in last 6 sc; join with a sl st to first dc: 22 dc.  Fasten off; secure ends.

Top Edging: (Using MC)

Rnd 1) Holding soap holder upright; join thread to any dc post on top of holder with a sl st; ch 1, (sc, hdc, 2 dc) over same dc post (shell basket st made), sk next dc; * (sc, hdc, 2 dc) over next dc post (shell basket st made), sk next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 11 shell baskets.  Fasten off; secure ends.

Bottom Edging: (Using MC)

Row 1) Holding soap holder upside down; join thread to first dc post on end of holder with a sl st; ch 1, (sc, hdc, 2 dc) over same dc post (shell basket st made); * sk next dc, (sc, hdc, 2 dc) over next dc post; rep from * across; sl st in last “unworked” dc on the back to secure the last shell basket: 6 shells baskets.  Fasten off; secure ends.

Finishing:

Insert a bar of soap.  If desired, using additional yarn (MC or CC), pull the lengths through the stitching at the top of the soap holder to close the opening; tie into a bow.
