Pattern Stitch: Clusters

The Cluster Stitch:

Clusters are relatively easy to work and they had fun and texture to a piece.  Technically clusters are worked in a space or stitch, but they have also been worked over stitches.

Abbreviation(s): The cluster abbreviation is known as: Cluster / Cl

Definition: Clusters usually are comprised of double crochet using 2-4 stitches to create the cluster.  But as with most stitches, it can be varied using treble crochet stitches and using more than 4 stitches.  (Yarn over, insert hook in stitch or space as indicated by pattern instructions, draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook) as many times as instructed, yarn over draw through all loops on hook to complete the stitch.

Example: (Yarn over, insert hook in stitch or space as indicated by pattern instructions, draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times, (4 loops on hook), yarn over draw through last 4 loops on hook to complete the stitch.

Pattern: Our Pineapple Burst Doily uses a double row of clusters outlining the spiral center.
